With over 42 years of experience
in litigation and over 20 years as a certified mediator, Andrew Caplan has either litigated or mediated every category of civil action. Beginning his career as a personal injury litigator and then moving to commercial litigation over the past 40 years Andy has routinely handled matters in both State and Federal courts and has represented both Plaintiffs and Defendants throughout his career. In his wide-ranging and diverse practice Andy has tried or arbitrated every genre of civil action to conclusion including but not limited to personal injury, real estate, contract disputes, trade secret and intellectual property related actions, construction, insurance, maritime, probate, employment (including non-compete disputes), shareholder disputes, HOA, and eminent domain . Additionally, over the past 20 years he has mediated a similar variety of cases with a higher degree of success than that of most mediators.
Andy Caplan has employed his comprehensive experience to the mediation practice in order to find and implement novel approaches to settlement that oftentimes stretch beyond the envelope.
Andy graduated from the University of Florida in 1978. He was the recipient of The Professor of Naval Science scholarship from the United States Navy as a midshipman and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Naval Reserve.
He graduated Cum Laude from South Texas College of Law in 1982 where he was a member of the Law Review and was published in that Law Review on the subject of Maritime Procedure. He was also a Member of the Order of Lytae.
He was a partner at Weycer, Kaplan, Pulaski and Zuber, PC for 30 years and prior to that a partner at Boyar, Norton and Blair, both in Houston where he specialized in commercial litigation. Over the past 20 years at WKPZ Andy incorporated mediation into his practice after successfully completing the Mediation course training offered by the University of Houston.
Andy is also a coach for the University of Houston Mock Trial department, mentoring students in trial advocacy. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Houston Gilbert and Sullivan Society as well as being a member of the Steering Committee for the Houston JCC Maccabi Games.
Andy is married to Leah, his wife of 43 years and has 3 grown children (Matt, Scott and Cara) and a granddaughter, Kayd. He has been active in both the Houston and Sugar Land communities for more than 4 decades.
